Di solito riteniamo che un quadro sia costituito solo da figure e colori dipinti sulla tela, ignorando che l’opera d’arte assume un fascino anche per lo scheletro che la ospita. Le cornici hanno una loro storia e tradizione che a volte impone che scompaiono, a volte che siano addirittura più importanti della tela che ospitano.
